The man leaned back onto the soft couch, sat his communicator and files down on the table beside him and slowly closed his eyes. He was so tired! The radio was playing Christmas carols softly in the background. "I'll have a blue Christmas without you", came on and Kirk sigh in frustration.

It had been another long, boring day of disappointment. The talks were nowhere near to an agreement and the holidays were fast approaching. He silently raged that once again, his wishes for this Christmas would have to take a backseat to the needs of Starfleet.

His years of service and rank really weren’t helping the talks like Starfleet had thought! "You’d think after 30 years of service, just once my time could be spent the way I wanted it!" he raged in his head. There would be no tree, no dinner, no friends, nothing but silence. He tried in frustration to once more reach his spouse, but there was no connection.

What bothered him the most though was that there would be no hug from his mate. Exhausted he finally gave in to his bodies needs and slumbered restlessly, tossing slightly as even in sleep he worried about his inability to reach his beloved and make the tenuous contact of a message.

The next couple of days continued on in the same vein, each one getting steadily worse. Tempers were fueled by frustration and the treaty slip further away until finally Commander Kirk stood up and threw the files, scattering papers across the table, and swore at the 2 groups, his dissatisfaction reaching its boiling point and his tolerance for ignorance at an end.

"Fine, we will be here when they send you announcements on the birth of your grandchildren! Cause you won’t be there!" he roared, turned and stalked out of the silent room.

He finally reached his door, tired and depressed, realizing his Christmas was ruined. There was no way it would wrap up in time for him to reach his mate before Christmas Eve. As he opened the door he heard once again from the radio the old classic, "I'll have a Blue Christmas Without You" His eyes burned as the song seemed to echo his thoughts.

The melancholy man entered his room, so troubled he didn’t notice the signs before him, the little plastic tree in the corner, the shoes to the side of the chair, the cup of cocoa waiting. He threw down his briefcase and then started as an arm reached around his waist and pulled him close. "What!" He yelped. Then he noticed the twinkling lights, the presents under the tree and before he could speak a set of warm lips closed over his and he heard in his mind "Merry Christmas, T'hy'la my love" as his lean, Vulcan husband embraced him.

Shock gave way to intense joy as he reveled in wonderful warmth and as they stumbled over to the bedroom door, he pawed the radio off as he passed, "Blue Christmas indeed!"
